Model Tree Ordinance

Last year the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) revised the Tier A Municipal Stormwater General Permit. They also reclassified all municipalities into the Tier A category. This revision requires all municipalities toadopt and enforce a community wide ordinance  covering tree removal / replacement.  The NJDEP developed a model tree replacement/removal ordinance, which is now available on the NJDEP website.

In an effort to assist municipalities to meet their requirements, the NJDEP has extended the due date to adopt a tree removal/replacement ordinance from January 1, 2024, to May 1, 2024.  If your municipality does not have a tree replacement / removal ordinance, now is the time to get this done.
