Benefits of membership in NJPO
- EDUCATION

- Orientation & Update Programs - specifically designed and
segmented into sessions for new members of planning boards, zoning
boards of adjustment, experienced members and the chair. Featuring
attorneys, planners and engineers, around the state usually in Spring.
Saturday mornings, evenings and weekday mornings are all on the agenda.
- Training Courses - following mandated curriculum stipulated by law,
enhance members' skills and knowledge and certify the individual to
continue membership on a planning board or zoning board.
- Regional Subdivisions - NJPO divides New Jersey into five regions for
targeted topical discussions. Each area conducts educational dinner
meetings.
- Hot Topic Programs - dinner meetings sponsored by volunteer NJPO
advisory councils on a wide variety of issues.

- B. Budd Chavooshian State Planning Conference - a one-day workshop
geared to the professional as well as the lay planner.
- "NJPO Days of Planning" - Three intense days of sessions
providing up-to-the minute information, held each November during the
Annual League of Municipalities Conference, features key speakers from
state government, the bench, discussion panels and training sessions.
- Annual Achievement in Planning Awards - recognizing individuals,
municipalities, projects and developments for noteworthy planning
efforts.

- OTHER SERVICES

- Legislative Committee - an active Legislative Committee reviews
pending land use legislation and presents the position of the NJPO to
legislators.
- Municipal Land Use Law Drafting Committee Representation -
developments in Municipal Land Use Law are monitored via representation
on the Drafting Committee. Changes in the interests of the NJPO are then
proposed.
- Clearinghouse for Land Use Inquiries - NJPO provides interpretations
of Municipal Land Use Law by local planners and/or attorneys upon request.
- Boards
- This category includes municipal planning boards and zoning boards of
adjustment as well as county planning boards. A copy of the Planner is
mailed for each member of the board. No limit on number of books available
at member prices.
